Gates of Light
For Studio Roosegaarde, MAUC developed the iconic Gates of Light along the Afsluitdijk. Sixty monumental lock gates from 1932 light up through headlights of passing cars - no external power, only light generated by movement. The project creates a futuristic landscape from the interaction between heritage and contemporary mobility. MAUC developed the concept from initial sketch to full completion, with more than 20,000 cars per day enjoying this permanent installation.
