The Kai Tak Show
In collaboration with Mothership

The Kai Tak Show is a concept proposal by Mothership and MAUC for an impressive, multi sensory evening experience in the centre of the future Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong. The idea taps into the site’s famous past. Up to 1998, this was the home of the legendary Kai Tak Airport, known worldwide for its dramatic landings close to the city’s skyscrapers. With the arrival of the new sports park, the area is changing from airfield into a lively place for sports, culture, and entertainment.

To make that shift something you can really feel and remember, Mothership imagines a bold installation: a ring of decommissioned airplanes, placed upright on their tails with the noses facing inward, all tied together by a central platform. During the day it works as a lookout point over the sports park. At night it turns into the setting for a one of a kind evening show that links Kai Tak’s past, present, and future.

The show is envisioned as Show 3.0, an experience that goes beyond sound and visuals and juist ook inzet op geur, aanraking, and taste. Where the world famous Symphony of Lights is mainly about what you see, the Kai Tak Show is designed to trigger all the senses. Visitors hear the rumble of descending aircraft, smell kerosene and grass, feel vibrations and a fine mist, and watch water projections of athletes and airplanes. They can even try a specially created cocktail, served by stewardesses in outfits that mix aviation with sport. The Kai Tak Show is meant to become an iconic attraction for locals and tourists, and a show you cannot miss that naturally travels across social media because of its striking look and sensory impact.

It’s set up as the ideal kick off to an evening in lively Hong Kong, a new ritual that respects the past while confidently looking ahead.
